#9 Man of Steel

This is a review I wasn’t entirely sure what review I wanted to do, but in the end I chose rage issues, because despite the fact there are good points to it, there are a lot of problems, that as a comic book fan, I’m not impressed with.

So, let’s dig into Man of Steel without delay

Legend of Korra Book 3 Chapter 8 review - The Terror Within

Before I start the next review, I’d like to say SCREW YOU NICKELODEON. Advertising for Korra started a mere 2 weeks before its air-date, and the air-date itself wasn’t revealed until a week later, not surprisingly ratings haven’t been very good (if I had a penny for every book 3 post I’ve seen through various blogs saying ‘Korra book 3 is on? I didn’t know’ I’d be quite rich)

On top of that, Nickelodeon went to advertise that their episodes would not be available online (at least for a few days) except now, they’re only going to be available online. I understand that ratings online are very good for Korra, and Korra isn’t your usual type of show (because it’s good) but seriously, you pull it mid-book! THAT’S DUMB

OK, let’s get started with the last episode to air offline

#8 Teen Titans by Felicia D Henderson (#75-76, #79-87)

Time for my first multiple issue comic review, today we’ll be looking at the entire of Felicia D Henderson’s run on the Teen Titans pre new 52. Unfortunately, as I only own a trade of this, I can't add scans, I'm gonna edit in some covers to break up the text a bit

TV Retrospective: Legend of Korra Book 1 Chapters 10-12 - Turning the Tides/Skeletons in the closet/Endgame

We have come down to the end of book 1, where for lack of more dignified phrase, the sh*t hits the fan

Guilty Pleasures #4 Stormbreaker

Stormbreaker is one of a series of books written by Anthony Horowitz, one that was adapted for a film of the same name (originally named Alex Ryder: Operation Stormbreaker) the advantage of 6 different production companies and over a dozen distributions did not stop it taking a fall in the box office. Recovering just $23.6 million of its $40 million budget. So where did it all go wrong? It certainly wasn’t lack of promotional material. Hoping for it to be the next billion dollar film series, like Harry Potter was becoming, they had very high profile marketing, in the UK with BBC and ITV appearances.

No, the reviews for this movie are average at best, 5.6 on IDMB, on 33% on rotten tomatoes. But there’s no reason why another book series could rival Harry Potter, let’s dig into Stormbreaker and see why this wasn’t the franchise for it.

Legend of Korra Book 3 Chapters 6-7 review - Old Wounds/Original Airbenders

Thought I'd try out a new Korra image for this one
Anyway, as Nickolodeon continue to blaze through this series, I blaze through the reviews, we now look at chapters 6 and 7

TV Retrospective: Legend of Korra Book 1 Chapters 7-9 - The Aftermath/When Extremes Meet/Out of the Past

We continue with the legend of Korra book 1 mini-reviews, as the story delves deeper into the equalists plots, and we see a flashback involving people from the original Avatar stories.

Guilty Pleasures #3: Ender's Game

A movie based on a book series I’ve never read, and making a mere $15 million profit at the box office (source: Wikipedia - and in case someone's about to skip to the comments, yes, I'm aware that this could be inaccurate). Distributed by Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment (much like Now You See Me.) A trailer I saw for the movie on the Now You See Me Blu-ray convinced me to take a look at this movie, and I like it a lot.

That’s not to say that it doesn't have its problems. Let’s play a drinking game, if a character acts like a complete asshole, take a shot. If you aren't in the hospital by the end of the movie, you've probably missed a few.

#7 Red Hood and the Outlaws #0 (The New 52)

Oh boy, it’s another cr*ppy Scott Lobdell Comic, what I have to put up with…

So, Red Hood and the Outlaws is one of the more controversial new 52 comics. Not because of the fact that Jason Todd seems deadpan and sarcastic, not because Roy Harper is now wearing a trucker hat but everything to do with their portrayal of Starfire. In the first issue she seems like a sex object, and I never really bothered to read the rest of it.

So rather than choosing Roy Harper, who’s origin has clearly changed for the New 52, or Starfire, whose origin is a far lesser known one, we get the origin of the Red Hood. Batman sells! So you'll not be surprised to hear that despite Roy Harper and Starfire being on the cover, they're not in the book at all.

So, let’s not waste any time and get into the issue, and get it over with quickly

TV Retrospective: Legend of Korra Book 1 Chapters 1-3 - Welcome to Republic City/A leaf in the wind/The Revelation

No main Korra review this week, as they take a break for the 4th July, so I'll be spending this week covering book 1 (there may be other reviews coming too, but I've got to do some scans for them)

Legend of Korra Book 3 Chapters 1-3 review - A breath of fresh air/Rebirth/The Earth Queen

When it comes to animation. I've always said the best shows are those that can appeal to children, but don't talk down to adults. A perfect example of that is Avatar: The Last Airbender (not to be confused with the films Avatar or The Last Airbender, the cr*ppy movie based on the show). A show that created an interesting lore and told a compelling story with interesting characters.

The Legend of Korra takes the lore of the show, and places it in a modern setting. So as well as Dragons and Sky Bison we have air ships and the radio (things that while they existed, they were not commonplace in Avatar: The Last Airbender.) Avatar: Legend of Korra has the disadvantage that they need to tell self-contained stories over much shorter book lengths, which does get in the way of story-telling and character development

I will do reviews of books 1 and 2 of Korra later on, but suffice it to say, they had their ups and downs, but book 2 left things an interesting position going into book 3

A few weeks ago, several episodes of book 3 were leaked, this resulted in the release date for book 3 being pushed up to last Friday, when the first 3 episodes would be aired. So without further ado, let’s get into episodes 1-3 of the Legend of Korra book 3, change
