Redux Month - Daredevil

“How do you kill a man without fear?”

What kind of dumb question is that? Being unafraid doesn’t make you bulletproof, immune to knives or poison or fire, it doesn’t make you able to breathe underwater, or be incapable of succumbing to injuries. You kill him the same way you kill anyone else.

Next up for redux month, we’re talking about Daredevil and I’ve got a confession to make, when I did my original Daredevil review, I’d never read a Daredevil comic, and it would be another 6 months before the Netflix show would come out and redefine Daredevil in my eyes (along with a lot of people’s). The purpose of the review was to defend the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman in the then upcoming Batman v Superman movie… which as you all worked out so well, our latest Batman is Edward Cullen from Twilight. I kid, Robert Pattinson’s a decent actor.

So what’s my new take on Daredevil. Oh boy is it bad, but it’s still not as bad as Elektra. I know, I’m full of hot takes here.

Pixar Playlist #3 - Toy Story 2

Ladies and Gentlemen, whether you like it or not, the Pixar Playlist

Well, it didn’t take long to get to the first sequel but here we are with Toy Story 2. The success of Toy Story really sparked something, and because it’s Disney and around this point in their history, if a movie made any money, it got a direct-to-DVD sequel.

The deal with Disney was at this point revised to 5 movies in 5 original franchises, so Toy Story 2 wouldn’t count towards it. Production for this film was not easy, with tight deadlines and a sudden rush for it to be theatre quality as it was changed to get a theatrical release, not to mention them nearly deleting 90% of their assets and staff members working to the point of actually getting wrist problems did put a dampener of things.

Released in 1999, the film made a respectable $497m on it’s $90m budget and is one of those rare films with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so is it worth all that praise?

Well, yes and no, but I’ll get to that.

Guilty Pleasures #7 - Daredevil

I don’t have too much to rage at at the moment, but let’s take a look at another film that I don’t think is as bad as critics have often thought it was, Daredevil

It’s another Guilty Pleasure from Marvel Comics, specifically this time it’s Fox division. I don't know much about the comics this is based upon, but what I do know is that the modern day Daredevil is a dark and gritty saga defined by writer Frank Miller. (Yeah, this is before everything he wrote turned to sh*t)

It was popular enough for a movie to be brought out in 2003, earning a 5.3 on Idmb, a 45% rotten tomatoes rating, and while it was profitable, it made less than $200 million, the budget for a modern day Superhero movie. 

So, let's dig into the movie, and see exactly what went right, and what went wrong.
