TV Retrospective: The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 5 episodes 1-4 - Sky/The Curse of Clyde Langer

The final series of the Sarah Jane Adventures was tragically cut short after the death of Elizabeth Sladen. They had filmed everything they needed for 6 episodes, Skye, The Curse of Clyde Langer and The Man who never was, each following the usual 2-part narrative. I’ll be covering the first 2 of these stories in this retrospective, in the next I’ll be covering the final 2 episodes and will be analysing some of what the plans were for the rest of the series.

TV Retrospective - The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 4 Part 1 - The Nightmare Man/The Vault of Secrets

It’s been a while but we’re back, and looking at the 4th series of the Sarah Jane Adventures and the final full season of the show.  Series 5 was sadly cut short thanks to the passing of Elizabeth Sladen. And we’ll get to some ideas for the show that were ultimately cut later, but for now, let’s get straight in with The Nightmare Man

TV Retrospective - The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 3 Part 1 - Prisoner of the Judoon/The Mad Woman in the Attic

OK, it’s been a few weeks since our last retrospective. But we’re back, now it’s time to look at the show’s third season.

Nothing’s really happened between seasons so let’s just get right to it.

TV Retrospective: The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 2 Part 1 - The Last Sontaran/Day of the Clown

We continue our tribute to Elizabeth Sladen with the second series of the Sarah Jane Adventures.

Before we continue I should mention the 4th series of Doctor Who, where the series finale was a crossover with the Sarah Jane Adventures, and Torchwood. I like what it was but I did feel it was trying to be too much. It was a crossover with the Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood, also bringing back Rose and Martha and their supporting cast, plus Donna Noble had to the be the focus since it was the end of her run as companion. All this in a 2-part episode with a half hour extension to the second part. Perhaps some smaller crossovers would’ve been better building up to this finale. I understand budget may make this restrictive but I didn’t say it had to all be done in the same season. As a result of all this. Luke’s role is minor whilst Maria and Clyde are written out entirely.

The episode itself is really dumb and Diamanda Hagan has said she’d do a twatty who review of it, whilst I don’t agree that it’s a bad episode, I do see the negatives here. The Doctor and Sarah Jane would meet again but that’s for another series. In the meantime, let’s take a look at series 2 of the Sarah Jane Adventures.

TV Retrospective - The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 1 Part 2 - Eye of the Gorgon/Warriors of Kudlak

Welcome back to my retrospective on the Sarah Jane Adventures – not much point doing recaps since the show is not heavily serialised. They’ll follow up on things occasionally but it’s rare to see a story that actively requires knowledge from another episode.

So, let’s start today by looking at Eye of the Gorgon

TV Retrospective - The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 1 part 1 - Invasion of the Bane/Revenge of the Slitheen

It’s been a while I know, but it’s time for another TV retrospective.

There have been a few Doctor Who Spinoff’s over the years, but there’s one I’d define as the best

In your dreams. This is the Sarah Jane Adventures

The series premiered in 2007 and ended in 2011 thanks to the tragic passing of Elizabeth Sladen. But it had a decent run of 1 tv movie and 52 episodes across 5 series. I’ll be covering the show 4 episodes at a time, counting the TV movie as 2 episodes.

Also, because of scheduling issues I’ll covering the first 2 series during April and May, the 3rd in July and 4-5 will be covered from September.
