Netflix Retrospective - Voltron: Legendary Defender Season 7 Episodes 4-6

We’re back with Voltron: Legendary Defender, when we last left the crew, they were struggling with their lions, which are low on power and find it’s been years since Voltron was last seen. Can things get better, let’s take a look at the next 3 episodes.

Netflix Retrospective - Voltron: Legendary Defender Season 7 Episodes 1-3

We’re finally back to Voltron, with the controversial season 7. I’ll get into detail about the nature of said controversy through my review. This still had a high critical rating, with a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and enjoyed high audience ratings, although a slight dip from previous seasons. We’re back to 13-episode seasons, so let’s spend the next 4 weeks breaking this season down.

Netflix Retrospective - Voltron Legendary Defender Season 6 Episodes 1-4

Season 6 of Voltron came a few months after season 5. I don’t know why they stopped splitting the seasons at this point, I guess the animation was nearing completion and there wasn’t much point stalling it. It’s also the last season where I don’t have to address controversy. I guess I’ll get to it when I get to it. But onto season 6. We’ll cover the first 4 episodes in this one, because ep 3 is kinda filler and I want to leave this retrospective on a more exciting note.

Netflix Retrospective - Voltron: Legendary Defender Season 5 Episodes 1-3

OK, we’ve got to season 5 and since I wrote the last retrospective, Voltron has become somewhat a subject of controversy for certain narrative decisions in its final 2 seasons. I will cover the particularly controversial elements in due course, my opinion is that they’re well-intentioned but badly thought through, particularly with the announcement in the marketing for season 7, something I’ll get to when I eventually cover season 7.

For now, though, we’re only on season 5 and there’s only 6 episodes to cover as once again, the season was split in half so they could put more releases out, let’s see how this half holds up.

Netflix Retrospective - Voltron: Legendary Defender - Season 3 Episodes 1-3

Netflix wanted to get the show out faster, and so began splitting the planned seasons into smaller mini-seasons, the next 4 seasons are either 6 or 7 episodes long, and as such seasons 3 and 5 don’t feel entirely complete. That said, it does mean I can do season 3 in 2 retrospectives before we hit the Christmas hiatus so… Here’s season 3 of Voltron

Netflix Retrospective: Voltron: Legendary Defender Season 2 episodes 1-3

We continue our retrospective on Voltron: Legendary defender with season 2, which would be the last for a while to be a full 13 episodes, seasons 3-6 would be 6-7 episodes each (without about half the originally planned season in each new season) with the recently teased season 7 going back to 13 episodes again. But to the content of season 2 itself.

Netflix Retrospective: Voltron: Legendary Defender Season 1 episode 1 - The Rise of Voltron

It’s time to look at a series that doesn’t have hour long episodes and isn’t live action. Yes, this is partly an excuse to narrow my workload as it’s become a little overbearing recently, don’t worry, the long ones will be back. This is Voltron: Legendary Defender

Voltron was a series released back in the 90s, it took a Power Rangers-esque style with animation, intercutting a Japanese series with their own animation to cut back on animation costs. There were a few iterations but the most popular featured 5 lions against a villain Named King Zarkon, this is a reboot of that concept and thus far has spanned 6 seasons. Because of the newly introduced year cut-off date for now I’ll be covering up to season 4, with a gap for the summer hiatus and I break in October whilst I try an Halloween theme.
