Constantine Episodes 6-7 review - Rage of Caliban/Blessed are the Damned

We once again take a closer look at DC's most heroic a**hole, John Constantine as his battles against rising Darkness intensify

Episode 6 – Rage of Caliban

Congratulations, you've finally succeeded in being scary, Constantine. I suppose it's partly the shock value of something so horrible being instigated by innocent kids possessed by an evil spirit or something.

So, the premise is this. An abused child killed his parents and the act was so violent his spirit left his body (leaving him catatonic) and began possessing other children, forcing them to commit violent murderous acts against their parents.

No Zed this week, this was originally intended to be the second episode, but a little bit was added in explaining she was attending art classes (for some reason, she can't have ever attended art class whilst on the run, and she's already an amazing artist, see any picture she drew in episode 2 as evidence of that, but never mind)

This puts the focus on Constantine dealing with children. Previous experience makes him reluctant to perform his usual tricks, especially after what happened before.

Manny serves as a pointless exposition fairy an advisor this week, and provides us with some details about John Constantine's background as well. It's amazing he even attempts to smoke after having cigarettes put out on him by his father, nasty.

Whilst this episode has its share of problems it was enjoyable, however I'm kinda glad they ditched the narration to be honest, it's always kinda boring.

Episode 7 - Blessed are the damned

We’re coming into Winter Break Central, and man is it getting exciting with teases for excellent finales of the Flash, Arrow and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Constantine goes the Star Wars Rebels root of making the mid-season finale a two-parter, albeit with each part relatively self-contained.

So, the plot, when a preacher who committed murder dies he attains an "angel's" feather and is revived and begins to heal the sick and injured, but that power always comes at a price. Especially when it turns out the angel was a fallen one.

This episode had a considerable focus on Zed (once again with Chas out of the picture) as she comes to the realisation that angels exist and in some ways finds religion. Although she has never come face to face with Manny, as he reveals himself only to John apparently.

We also see her enjoying the art classes that we heard she was on last week, only to discover that the model inviting her out for dinner was working with someone who probably has something to do with the rising darkness.

This was also another important episode, because Manny actually did something!!  Yes, Manny is heavily involved in the episode, and gets a personal moment with our fallen angel, as he asks what it’s like to be bound to the moral world, as she is.

I don't have a lot more to say about this episode, it's a good one, the villain was cool, the twist came as a genuine surprise to me, and… Yeah, well done
