The Atomic Job
Peggy Carter
spent much of the first season going behind everyone’s back, leaving her in a
position where she had few allies to rely on for support, and Jarvis filled
that spot to the best of his ability. This time, whilst there’s still a larger
conspiracy at work which definitely limits her abilities to have allies, she
has a few more and that’s largely down to having Soussa as her ‘boss’ rather
than Thompson.
So, this
episode introduces the people I’m calling Team Carter (you know, like Team
Avatar except with… anyway) Soussa, Peggy and Jarvis are obvious but this
episode adds two new members. The first of which, Rose. I’ve really not
mentioned her character up to this point because there was honestly not much to
say, she was the protector and kept the place’s cover by watching the occasional
music audition.
Soussa’s
worries about her fieldwork experience feel genuine rather than the usual
‘she’s a girl’ mentality that others would but Peggy’s sharp response changed
his mind and it paid off, gladly.
Finally, we
also have our nerd of the group, Dr. Samberly, our scientist who’s been wanting
fieldwork. Soussa trusts him because no-one actually likes him but I have
admit, that could be a pretty good cover. Have a bunch of plants deliberately
hate their most important plant.
I suppose I
should mention what the plot actually is so I can talk about it. Whitney is
seeking an atomic bomb to recreate the explosion that created the zero matter.
Peggy and Jarvis find out and are on a race to find and disarm the bombs,
within Roxxon Industries.
So, after
bla bla bla happens to get both teams inside it’s time to kick ass, and disarm
some bombs. A task left to Jarvis when ‘steady hands’ Soussa is locked out.
Jarvis really shone in this episode in both his humour and his actions
So, that
leaves us with the fight, which honestly was more a massacre as Whitney easily
handled Peggy and left her badly injured. Which brings me to Violet, who Soussa
proposes to in this episode but she’s a nurse and the only person Soussa trusts
to take care of Peggy but his actions show her that he still loves her. What’s
nice about this is the way she takes it. I don’t feel like I’m in a soap opera
like I would’ve been if this had been in the Flash or Arrow (they kinda sorta
did this with Fitz in Agents of SHIELD and he took it well, too, so…) she takes
it with disappointment but kindness and understanding, you earn points from me
from avoiding that trope
A very
strong episode where Chadwick decides to grow a pair, kinda, and stand up to
Whitney by the end, even going as far as to calling the council behind her
back. It’s going to be interesting watching this although I wouldn’t count on
Chadwick surviving the next few episodes

Life of the Party
Whitney
Frost has had enough of this sh*t!
So, Whitney
may have badly injured Peggy but her failure drives her to drastic measures in
this episode. But fortune comes when Chadwick offers her a meeting with the
council. Meanwhile, Peggy seeks a way to stabilise Jason and needs a sample of
zero matter, only obtainable from Whitney Frost. But unable to do it herself
given her condition, they need someone of equal skill, Dottie Underwood
I think
they’re trying to set up Dottie is Peggy’s nemesis of sorts, someone who’s a
smart woman who knows how to play both sides to her own ends and whilst their
physically well matched, this is really a battle of wits.
This episode
sees Carter gain the upper hand over Dottie, needing her to complete the
mission. She knows only that Dottie will take the first opportunity to double
cross her. And she’s absolutely right about that. She’s honestly more
interesting that Whitney, who, whilst not boring by any means has very clear
motivations and wants.
So Whitney’s
meeting turns out to be a trap, set by Chadwick, turns out his growth of balls
is a tad too late however as her power levels are far greater than previously
thought. She kills off 4 members of the council and Chadwick, leaving only
those useful to her plans. The only thing is the love she has for Chadwick in
this episode, it doesn’t entirely line up.
There are a
few smaller things happening in the episode too, Jack continues to make things
difficult as he’s told now to destroy Agent Carter. Although I do like him
offering her a hand before he does so at the end. Then there’s Jarvis’ wife,
becoming increasingly worried about the danger her husband is getting herself
into. And the fact that Violet broke off her engagement to Daniel Soussa
believing he’s still in love with Peggy. There are a few little things and that
makes a great story overall.

Monsters
Life gets
harder by the day
Jason’s experiment
proves to be a success, but Dottie’s capture sets off a chain of events that
has major repercussions for Agent Carter and the gang.
Yeah,
there’s the bit about Peggy having to choose between Daniel and Jason, and
there’s the whole Soussa being fired bit but we really want to talk about is
Whitney Frost got Dottie Underwood to talk, she’s that powerful now. I wouldn’t
have minded them teaming up, but I suppose you can’t get everything in life.
I suppose I
really should mention Vernon Masters, that guy who thinks he’s about as
important as a minnow in a pond. I say this because he’s boring. So, so boring.
His character is cliché, he never gets his hands dirty and he has Jack Thompson
on a leash because reasons.
I just don’t
get him at all, I’ve tolerated his presence until now because ok, he’s the
leader of the council people and now he’s an underling and has to make life
hard for everyone so he can find those nuclear rods to create the bomb. Given
the teaser for the next episode I presume he succeeds, can you kill him off
after that please?
OK, Ana, oh
Ana Ana Ana, most women in this are portrayed as sweet and badass in the right
ways. Not overemotional and aggressive like some shows
*cough*CorrinationStreetEasterendersEmmerdaleetc*cough* would make them. And
Ana is sweet, I think that’s probably the best word to describe her. She’s
tolerant but has natural worries, she was skilled enough to help Jason
construct his sciency thing of science and she was willing to stand up to the
bad guys
Of course,
that comes at a cost, Whitney shot her in the hopes of slowing Peggy down and
that’s exactly what happened. I highly doubt she’s dead, you don’t usually make
a possible death a cliff-hanger only to have them die in the next scene.
Peggy’s more
alone than ever, no SSR to back her up (not that they ever did) and now it’s
time for the fireworks to start. Oh and Dottie Underwood escaped, we’ll be
seeing her soon no doubt.
