TV Retrospective: Young Justice Episodes 21-26

We return one final time to the first season of Young Justice, it's been a strong start, but it's not been faultless - let's see what the final episodes of the season brings

Image

Batman calls Green Arrow and Black Canary to show Superboy and ‘Black Canary’ training. ‘Black Canary’ kisses Superboy. OK, we all know this is M’gann and why do they need to see this exactly? Martian Manhunter remarks this is a common game on Mars, Connor knew he was with M’gann the entire time. Again, why did this need to be brought up at all?

Miss M is watching Hello Megan, a show that is brought up subtly every time anyone watches TV. Black Canary confronts her. They’re called to Mission briefing. Rumaan Harjavti is a democratic leader of the country of Qurac. But suddenly he’s backing Queen Bee's proposition to merge Qurac with Bialya. They think he’s under mind control, Queen Bee has the power to do so, but she hasn’t left Bialya.

Robin is given leadership of the team as Aqualad is helping Aquaman on another mission. Artemis is… is… I have no f*cking clue. Robin isn’t confident.

Bialya have sent tanks through an animal sanctuary, causing a stampede, they deploy, with Kid Flash and Robin stealthily making the military off whilst Superboy and Miss M stop the stampede.

Marie Logan warns that this engagement might’ve made them a target, and introduces her son, Garfield (and if you’re a DC Comics fan, you’re squeeing right now) they have 2 animals injured and fences that need fixing, Robin allows the team to do so. Garfield points out that Miss M looks exactly like his mother when she was a TV Star on ‘Hello Megan’ you can’t find it online despite all the references they’ve made to it. Garfield finds a tape and is about to play it but Bialyan air drones attack.

Robin tells Gar to stay put but of course that isn’t going to happen. He lets the animals out but is caught in the debris of a gas tank explosion. Miss M catches him, preventing the worst of the damage. Superboy and Miss M take out the drones whilst the others get him inside. Garfield needs a blood transfusion but no-one has the right blood type and Kid Flash couldn’t get to a hospital with a guaranteed blood supply in time. Miss M might be able to help, since her shapeshifting occurs on a cellular level, she can morph her blood to match his. Everyone else is kicked out of the room as Miss M does her mojo.

They try and put on the news and instead play the tape. It’s so 80s. Her boyfriend on the show is called Connor. When Miss M comes back, they switch the news and spot Psimon in the crowd. He’s controlling her now. They head to Dhabar, the Capitol building, the find him alone and are ambushed by solider carry apokoliptic tech. Miss M finds Psimon and heads to face him whilst the others face the soldiers.

Miss M is knocked down by Psimon, he knew she was there too. This time he’s ready to use his greatest fear against her. She reverts to white martian form, in full bloom. Robin, Kid Flash and Superboy finish up with the soldiers but they’re knocked out. Miss Martian knocked them out, but it doesn't matter, the whole piece is being recorded. The begin to battle on the psychic plane. Miss M fears she’ll be rejected from the team and sent back to Mars, worse she fears rejection from Superboy. This is really shallow. But we’ll get to that.

Psimon digs too far and Miss M blasts him with an intense beam, rendering him catatonic. Miss M smashes the recording equipment before waking the others up. They perform a scene where they have Queen Bee, Miss M in disguise, convince the public that Queen Bee is responsible for what happened… Yeah about this victory… It doesn't last very long, she entralls his brother, making a public outcry for him with a failed assassination attempt (this happens less than 2 weeks later) and then arranges Rumaan killed at a later time.

Kid Flash asks about the tape. Miss M responds that growing up was not a happy time for her and she grew a liking to Megan, and chose her as her human form when she came to Earth, she shows her true form as essentially a bald version of herself. Marie is accepting of this and calls her Garfield’s blood brother (they’ll soon both be green too – spoilers) M’gann calls in on Gar and finds Queen Bee, she knows of M’gann’s true form and will alert everyone if she doesn’t co-operate.

I dunno, M’gann’s plight would work better if there was something dangerous about the secret, but it’s more about how she doesn’t like the way she looks, otherwise it’s a very strong episode.

Agendas

The Justice League are all gathered on the watchtower to recruit new members. J’onn points out that if they expand it could trigger a response. Superman nominates Icon, Wonder Woman agrees, also pointing out Rocket, Icon's protégé, claiming the League could use more female members. Which she’s not wrong about either, shame all the new recruits are male anyway.

At the cave Zatanna and Miss M are preparing thanksgiving dinner. Wally’s there but leaves to have dinner with his family. Zatanna relents it’s her first thanksgiving without her father. Lex Luthor sends a message to Superboy via a frequency only he could hear, asking to meet him in Washington DC. He and Wolf head off.

The Atom is nominated; his size can be useful. The Flash brings up Guy Gardner but Green Lanterns Hal and John both don’t want him in the League for some reason. Superboy meets Lex in Washington DC, he’s the head of CADMUS. He tells Superboy that Cadmus has created a new superclone.

Superboy threatens his way into CADMUS, Guardian is more worried about some missing genomorphs. They have no idea about the new superclone. Even Dubilex agrees. Guardian takes off his mask, he looks like Red Arrow.

As Blue Devil is passed over, Green Arrow nominates Red Arrow, Aquaman argues rewarding his lack of co-operation would send a bad message to the rest of the team. Guardian shows Superboy arrives, Dubilex contacts Superboy, pointing out that their purpose has merely changed from weapons to labour. Lex Luthor is watching via security camera. Dubilex agrees to question the other genomorphs.

Superboy heads to his former pod, Wolf scratches at a fake wall, concealing a door to another section of CADMUS. Inside is an on-ice pod containing their Superboy clone. Superboy frees it but upon seeing his S symbol, it attacks. The attack in many ways resembles the fight Aqualad has with Superboy when they first met. Superboy finds that this clone can fly and has full kryptonian powers. Upon knocking Superboy out, it sees that his suit is ripped and burns one an S on his skin using a mirror, making it backwards. Luthor watches as the clone is knocked out and the camera is disabled.

Superman argues that although Red Arrow may be old enough, the rest of the team is too young to be admitted to the League. Fate says Kid Flash and Aquaman are ready, but immediately says no to Zatanna, Wonder Woman sees there’s some Zatara in him. Captain Marvel asks if Fate should be in the League. Fate argues that Zatara wants him to be there, his trust in Nabu is measured and he wants the League to keep him in check.

Superboy wakes up in a pod, he’s not happy about it and breaks out quickly. Doctor Spence argues that it was the fastest way to heal his injuries. Project Match is gone. They leave Superboy as he’s contacted by Luthor. He reveals that Kryptonian DNA was hard to read, the gaps in the sequence were filled with human DNA when Superboy was created, this is why he doesn’t have Superman’s powers. Match looks like a pure kryptonian clone, but he’s unstable and Lex advises he’s put back on ice asap.

He provides Superboy with shields, which will supress his human DNA and allow him temporary full krytonian powers.

Batman mentions Plastic Man, Captain Marvel starts laughing as The Flash points out that he has a criminal record. They decide to discuss whether Captain Marvel should remain a member now they know he’s only 10 years old. Arguments are made both sides. Batman stays at his defence, he knew about Billy’s age. Wonder Woman points out that it's not surprising considering Robin was indoctrinated at 9 years old. Batman argues that he needed to bring the people who murdered his parents to justice, so he wouldn’t turn out like Batman.

Superboy makes contact with Dubilex, knowing he was hiding something. He reveals Match was the first Superman clone. Lex Luthor and Desmond were in charge of him. Dubilex took Match and guides Superboy to his location, a carved out hole christened Genomorph City. Dubilex has liberated them here so they can be free. Match is being controlled by some telepathic genomes but upon seeing Superboy he breaks free and attacks. He seems relatively immune to telepathic control. After being tossed around a bit, Superboy uses one of the shields.

Martian Manhunter speaks in regards to age limit that Miss Martian, whilst an adolescent by Martian Standards is 48 years earth by hold. Red Tornado points to Superboy. He’s not even a year old, should he have to wait 17 more to be invited to the League? Superman looks a tad uncomfortable.

Shield armed, Superboy is able to take Match head on, he has Match on the ropes but keeps on beating him until Guardian, Mercy and some guards intervene. Match is put back on ice with Guardian remarking that it’s for the best. Superboy confronts Luthor. The shield box contained a tracker. Match was created by him and they were both used to find the missing genomorphs. Lex accepts all this but tells him that he was the human donor.

Lex escapes using a trigger phrase, Superboy considers throwing the shields away but ultimate decides to keep them. The League agrees to ratify the results of their votes and their meeting is adjourned.

This episode is setup mostly, the shields, the league indoctrination, it’s all setup for the finale, but it’s enjoyable enough.

Insecurity

Black Spider attacks a reporter; Green Arrow cushions his landing with Artemis helping him out. Meanwhile Sportsmaster is breaking into Belle Reeve. Strange deactivates the security lasers and Sportsmaster releases a prisoner. Artemis and Green Arrow take down Black Spider and Artemis is excited as she heads back to Gotham. Red Arrow’s been watching and they head off to stop a robbery. Sportsmaster escapes with his prisoner: professor Ivo. The Ivo in Belle Reeve is a robot.

Green Arrow tells Roy that by year’s end he’ll be joining the league but Ollie asks that he joins the team first to set a good example. Artemis is not pleased to hear that her mother begged Green Arrow and Batman to keep her on the straight and narrow. Ivo is taken to Klarion and the Brain, they originally wanted T O Morrow but he’s in a coma. Ivo’s equipment is en-route. Artemis arrives at the cave as Red Arrow is welcomed to the team. GA gives them a mission, finding out what Sportsmaster was up to. Red Arrow, Aqualad and Kid Flash are on the mission, Artemis volunteers under the guise that she has logged more hours piloting the bioship than the others.

Wally reassures her she has nothing to prove. Red Arrow is still insistent there’s a mole on the team, he calls Artemis suspect no. 1. Red Tornado’s heads into his apartment leaving Zatana to wonder what he’s doing there. Red Arrow spots Sportsmaster heading down the river. He pursues on bike as Aqulad pursues in the water, Artemis in the bioship and Wally on land. Red Arrow moves in, so does Artemis but Cheshire spots her.

A cargo ship drops off a package and Sportsmaster heads out. Roy lays a tracker when Artemis can’t and heads after him. Kid Flash and Artemis are fighting her now. Sportsmaster sees the tracker and leaves bombs behind for Aqualad, they’re both fine. Artemis leaves a tracer on her sword but as Kid Flash runs away she fires a tracer arrow on the cargo train. She claims she saw Cheshire sending a warning and didn’t want their coms intercepted. Artemis follows the second tracker in the bioship

Red Tornado is gone and they enter his apartment, they find something under a tarp. Sportsmaster delivers the case, a MONQI and an unknown gas, they take out the sea-star leg, the Brain creates a hole to create an entry point for the gas to get through and it’s absorbed by the leg, Klarion uses some magic to enhance it further.

Artemis sneaks into the building. Cheshire drops the tracker in front of her, telling her it goes well with the one Red Arrow put on her. He shows Red Arrow about to be attacked by Sportsmaster. Artemis uses an explosive Arrow to knock him out of the way.

Red Tornado catches Miss Martian, Zatanna and Superboy in the act, wolf was asleep. They find an android, which Red Tornado can download into to assume a human identity and blend in with humanity. He asks if their presence is a sign of disrespect, they argue that they’re just bored. Zatanna gives the robot pants (how she knew that spell is beyond me but whatever)

Kid Flash knocks Cheshire out of the way, they see a Red light and Artemis goes to investigate. Klarion instigates their escape. Cheshire and Sportsmaster escape also

Aqualad reports they failed and he debunks the idea that Ivo was there, the guards at Belle Reeve have checked and the real Ivo is there, working on the android though, hmm. They reveal Artemis’ dumping a tracer to send them on a wild goose chase. Aqualad breaks it up, but Red Arrow promises this isn’t over.

Artemis returns home and finds Sportsmaster waiting for her. He tries to convince her to change sides.

Another solid episode, but again, it’s a set-up episode. Thankfully the next one is a bit more standalone.

Performance

Welcome to Haly’s International travelling circus, their latest act trapeze artists Dan and Dawn Danger, archers Diane and Dane Danger and strongman Dean Danger, Dan manages to miss Dawn’s hand and is falling, with no net to catch them

Dean throws a barrel which forces him near Dawn’s grip, Dawn uses telekinesis to grab Dan. She’s Miss Martian, Dan is Robin, the archers are Artemis and Red Arrow and naturally Superboy is Dean. We cut back to Robin briefing the mission, tech has been stolen from several locations and they all coincide with tour stops from Haly’s circus, they’re going in to catch the thief. Red Arrow joins, wanting to keep an eye on all 3 mole suspects.

Robin’s barely holding on, he caught the 24-hour bug going around. The resident fire-breather asks a guy named Ray if he’s seen his torch, he has and pats him on the back for good luck, this will be relevant later. The other trapeze artists aren’t happy but Jack Haly says he gave them the slot after they missed the Paris performance. One of them got sick. Agent Faraday from Interpol approaches, marking the co-incidence of another tech robbery. He approaches the Dangers and tells them Haly’s going down for this.

They have a target identified and the thief heads their way, they pursue. Superboy uses another shield. He spots the thief in the warehouse. He grabs some sort of data disk thing before the team confront him. He breathes fire at them, Red Arrow is about to shoot but notices the cases of live ammo in the area. They explode and the fire weakens Miss M. Superboy is adamant to pursue but Robin eventually gets him to take Miss M out. Robin’s too weak to continue so Red Arrow and Artemis help him.

Faraday confronts Haly, but Haly tells him no-one left their rooms. The team knows he’s lying, they weren’t in their rooms for starters. Robin shows more security footage, showing people with more circus-like abilities were behind other robberies. Red Arrow suggest Haly could be the heading this up. Robin heads out as the others argue on the mole thing. Robin walks around the circus and gets contact from Kid Flash, he knows they’re not on an official mission. He says he wants to prove Jack is clean or he’ll lose the circus, since he grew up here he doesn’t want that to happen.

As the circus heads out Ray makes contact with Miss Martian. Robin’s feeling better but Miss M is feeling ill. They both remember Ray making contact with them just before they started to feel lousy. Robin finds Jack Haly and asks how long Ray’s been working with them. They picked him up as the tour began. Once they leave, we see that Haly is actually Ray using martian shape-shifting.

In the cargo hold they find an elephant food box, they don’t have an elephant on foreign tours. They find ash from the warehouse fire. Artemis finds Ray, well a mask. They search the train. Robin finds Jack tied up. He tries to use the psychic link but the flu has knocked that out. Robin contacts the others saying the guy they’re looking for has M’gann’s "act". Superboy’s spots him and calls the others. He’s the Parasite, a guy who once stole Superman’s powers.

He uses telekinesis to make contact with Superboy, he uses heat vision to destroy the bows of Red Arrow and Artemis. Robin jumps up but is knocked back by the Parasite. Parasite flies away. Robin did manage to pick a flash drive, Parasite was working with intergang, working on a weapon to create black holes. The next target is the large bozon collider in Geneva.

Not sure how the shields restore his powers when it’s drained but whatever. They enter the building, but this time want to come up with a plan to stop him before the black hole is fully operational. Superboy rushes in, Parasite drains his powers again. Miss Martian has an idea, it’s only based on a theory, but with time of the essence, they have no option. Red Arrow traps him in foam whilst Robin starts sabotaging the generator, Artemis fires a flammable gas arrow as he’s using heat vision. This weakens him, a side disadvantage of having martian powers. Robin manages to shut the generator down. They informed Interpol in advance, who have an inhibitor collar ready for him. Red Arrow is convinced now that none of them are traitors.

Jack thanks the dangers for what they’ve done, he knows that Dan is Dick Grayson, the sight of a Grayson on the trapeze can’t be hidden. He asks for one final favour, one final performance.

It’s a touching episode, and a rare focus on Robin and his backstory.

Usual Suspects

As the new year approaches, Superman addresses the public for 5 heroes to be initiated into the Justice League. Red Arrow, Icon, The Atom, Doctor Fate and Plastic Man. Kid Flash and the team are inside the hall watching with their newest member, Rocket. Robin picks up an alert. The ceremony finishes and Batman takes the new recruits into the hall to visit the watchtower. They enter and find the team is gone.

They picked up Cheshire entering a plane, carrying the case they couldn’t retrieve back in Insecurity. They find that jet had crashed, but there are no bodies about. It’s a setup, the Riddler, Mammoth, Shimmer and Cheshire, amongst a few soldiers with apokoliptic weaponry. Zatanna creates a snowstorm, Superboy uses his last shield. Artemis once again fights against Cheshire. Mamoth attacks Superboy and Robin spots Superboy flying. Superboy knocks Mammoth into a cliff and his continuous punches causes some of the cliff to collapse, right where Artemis is standing. Cheshire saves her, admitting they’re still sisters, she doesn’t actually want her dead before escaping. Robin and Zatanna take out the Riddler and Shimmer.

Batman congratulates them at the cave, they’ve proven that Strange is running criminal activity at Belle Reeve, somehow. They’ve also recovered the case, containing bio-technology fused with nano-circuitry. Icon concludes that they are not from Earth. They take it to the watchtower for further study. With the League gone, Aqualad comments that the Riddler was tipped off, and the mole plotline comes to light. Aqualad expresses his concern about Superboy’s recent behaviour.

Luthor contacts Superboy on the high frequency again, he has more shields and will provide if he meets Luthor on Santa Prisca. He heads to Santa Prisca and is greeted by Luthor, Queen Bee by his side along with Blockbuster, Sportsmaster and they’ve managed to get Bane on-side as well. Superboy concludes the injustice league was just a distraction, they were the ones responsible for it all. A helicopter arrives, piloted by Cheshire and with Artemis on board. She claims she’s switched sides. Miss Martian arrives in the bioship. Superboy says he’s in if he gets more shields but Luthor believes he’s lying and uses the trigger phrase.

Back at the cave, we see that Superboy admits that he was a clone of Superman and Lex Luthor. And admits he was using shields to supress his human DNA, and it’s making him angrier. Blockbuster is about to be taken along as Artemis turns heal. Back in the cave she admits her family connections. Robin revealed he already knew, but it never mattered. Queen Bee tells M’gann to take Artemis down, back at the cave Miss M admits to her being blackmailed by her true martian form, she reveals it. Aqualad and Superboy don’t even blink. Superboy reveals that he knew since September, and figured she say when she was ready. Miss M knocks out Queen Bee, freeing Superboy from her control. The trigger phrase was wiped from his mind.

Blockbuster attacks Superboy. Luthor calls Bane’s men into help and the super-cycle/sphere whatever you like to call provides some support. Sportsmaster and Cheshire face off against Artemis as she calls in reinforcements. Bane juices up for the battle. Aqualad confronts Luthor, but Mercy knocks him back. Zatanna and Robin face up against Bane.

Luthor escapes by helicopter, Rocket heads off in pursuit but the weapons hold her off, she’s still needed on the ground. Zatanna creates copies of Robin, allowing him to take Bane down as Kid Flash joins up against Sportsmaster and Cheshire. Aqualad and Rocket uses apokoliptic weapons to take down Blockbuster, they do the same with Sportsmaster. Cheshire decides to disappear as Artemis takes him down, providing his mask as a souvenir for Wally.

They celebrate a good day. On the watchtower Roy checks in on Batman, who remarks that the circuitry is disturbingly sophisticated. Roy pats him on the neck, installing one of the chips, he joins the rest of the league and authorises the zeta transmission for Vandal Savage. Roy’s head begins to clear and he realises that he was the mole the whole time, Vandal confirms this.

Damn, this is an intense episode once again. One of the big issues people pointed out is that there’s little fallout from any of the secrets they built up but here’s the thing. 2/3 of them (Artemis and M’gann) didn’t warrant any fallout, in fact someone already knew for both of them. With Superboy, the shields never got someone killed, and the fallout would only have happened if someone else found out, and likely more out of caring for him than out of anger

Auld Acquaintance

In a sewer tunnel in Washington, Red Arrow is running from Green Arrow, Aquaman and the Flash. Roy breaks his bow on Aquaman but escapes as a train passes by.

The team return to the cave, pleased with their efforts but still believing someone’s giving the enemy inside intel. Batman tells them that it was Red Arrow. Red Tornado reveals that the Roy Harper they know is another Project Cadmus Clone. The real Roy was abducted and replaced 3 years ago, pretty much immediately after joining with Green Arrow.

The Clone was programmed with a drive to join the league, which is why he was angry when his membership was delayed and he initially refused to join the team. His programming drove him to try and become league-worthy, which is why he did work on his own. When he was admitted, he attempted to betray the League to Vandal Savage but according to Batman he’d already deduced Roy was a clone and stopped him. They apprehended Savage but Roy escaped.

Batman is called to the watchtower as Aqualad prepares the team to go after Roy, Red Tornado shuts down. Zatanna is sensing mystic energy, and she was off Batman too, they conclude that something isn’t right, especially after seeing one of the bio-chip’s in Red’s hand. Robin, Zatanna, Rocket and Kid Flash stay behind to help Tornado, whilst the others go to find Roy.

Zatanna has an idea, they download his consciousness into John smith. Black Canary zetas in and sees what they’re up to. With the download complete, John Smith tells the team to get out of the cave. Black Canary attacks attacks, Robin moves in, but is no match for her, he does leave a gas pellet on her which Rocket contains, allowing her to be knocked out. John Smith tells them to abandon the cave. They do so on the Super-cycle.

Aqualad knows of several equipment caches Roy set up, including the one they're at. He breaks down the door, Red Arrow asks who broke his heart. Aqualad says that Tula did, she chose his best friend over him. Red stands down and they head onto the Bioship. Red Arrow confirms he was the mole. He begins to realise Sportsmaster was his handler, Broken Arrow his code-phrase which shut him down. He was ordered to focus mole suspicion on the 3 he did. Aqualad asks how Batman found this out, Red Arrow confirms he didn’t.

John Smith tells the others the same thing, the chips Savage referred to as Starro-tech are what put the league under his control. But the chip required a brief moment to integrate, in that moment Red created a subprogram that would shut him off if he attempted to infect anyone else. It worked on robots, Atlanteans, superhuman 4 different alien species (Kryptonian, Thanagarian, Martian and Cooperative – that’s Icon) even Doctor Fate.

Savage’s pause to bask allowed Roy to escape, he was an idiot. The groups link up and compare notes. Red Tornado, Black Canary and Red Arrow zeta to the watchtower, confirming the rest of the team is affected and awaits reprogramming. Vandal knows they’re lying, Starro-tech offers them remote control of their minds and they know who is and isn’t affected, none of them are. Hal Jordan contains the 3 of them.

Vandal re-infects them. The Justice League is a problem to him, by preventing people from undergoing crime, tragedy and disaster, they’re cementing society’s status quo and preventing their evolution, forcing he and his colleagues to create a response. With the League now under his control, he can accelerate evolution, allowing the Earth to take it’s place in the centre of the Cosmos.

Red Tornado bypassed watchtower security, allowing the team on board. They cure Plastic Man, Hawkman, the Atom and Captain Atom before Klarion notices. Vandal recalls the League away missions. Klarion points out that the 3 are not online and they make their attack, curing Hal. A boom tube opens and Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl and John Stuart head through. Together they take the 3 down. Since the kids have clearly reverse-engineered a cure/vaccine (rather quickly I might add) there’s no point in taking them alive.

Miss M, Rocket and Zatanna cure Doctor Fate, Captain Marvel and Icon using the tech developed by Queen Mera and Doctor Vulko from Atlantis and Doctors Roquette and Spence from the surface world. Artemis and Kid Flash call Aqualad’s help. Leaving the others to rendezvous with Robin and Superboy. Zatanna tries to remove the helmet of fate but fails.

Artemis is amazed they’re still alive facing Flash, Green Arrow and Aquaman. It’s because they’re limited by Klarion’s capabilities. Aqualad arrives and opens the cargo hold, sucking out the air, he closes it, sending the 3 heroes crashing into it so they can be cured. Wolf takes Hawkwoman down, Robin cures her. Wonder Woman attempts to use her lasso on Robin but Rocket protects him before trapping Wonder Woman in a force bubble. She can’t escape, since the kinetic energy from punching it is only strengthening it, Sphere has John Stuart down and Robin cures him. Rocket’s now stuck anything she does risks freeing Wonder Woman. Batman attacks, Robin knocks her out of the way and she flies out of his range. Batman and Robin fight. Superman and Martian Manhunter double-team Superboy. Miss M tries to sneak up on her uncle but fails, she reverts to martian form and knocks him out psychically before Superman punches her back.

Robin and Superboy soon realise they won’t win one-on-one. Superboy throws Robin at Batman, kicking him mid-glide, allowing him to be cured. Superboy grabs Superman. Robin has some kryptonite which he uses to slow Superman down enough to cure him. Vandal Savage tells Klarion it’s time to go. If they fight Klarion will lose control and potentially destroy the station. They need the League alive. They retreat as the New Year strikes. The team eventually divide into couples, with Rocket kissing Aqualad on the cheek.

Superman sees Superboy, telling him he did well. He asks about his name and reveals his own. It seems right that they share the same surname. Red Arrow breaks down; he needs to find the real Roy. Guardian is supposedly searching CADMUS. But he’s enthralled by Queen Bee whilst Spence and the Genomorphs are either unconscious or dead (it’s unclear but if I were to take a guess I’d sadly say dead given that Ra’s al Ghul is with them) they take Match as Ra’s takes an interest in the original Roy Harper, who is missing an arm.

Back at the Watchtower points out that Batman, Superman, John Stuart, Hawkwoman, Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter were away for 16 hours and they have no idea what they were doing)

It’s exactly the finale you’d expect. There was no way the Light was going down in this episode so having Savage and Klarion escape was expected. The team had their triumph over the League but the time is not without consequence, and we’ll see a lot of that next season. It’s a great action set-piece and it gets everyone involved, everyone gets a chance to shine.

We’ll return soon as we look at Young Justice Invasion and we find out what happened in that 16 hours, the first and only episode set entirely on an alien planet, a few new team members and a few surprise turns.
