4 issue Test #17 - Doctor Strange

Note: if you’re wondering why I delayed this review a week, the answer is simple. I received this issue later than I’d planned so didn’t know if the review would be done in time.

Doctor Strange, sorcerer supreme of the Marvel Universe and getting his own film in the latter half of the year starring Benedict Cumberbatch. I loved the Doctor Strange animated movie, probably one of the best of Marvel’s animation and on par with a good DC one.

But I’m not reviewing either of those, I’m here to review the comic, written by Jason Aaron, who handles the Star Wars book, so he’s set a reasonably high bar, can he surpass it, let’s take a look.

Guilty Pleasures #25 - Doctor Who: The Husbands of River Song

It’s time once again to look at a Doctor Who Christmas Special. It’s another one I actually enjoyed, hence it being a Guilty Pleasure.

Before we get into the review. Let’s talk about River Song. I think she’s an OK character, the idea of someone meeting the Doctor but in a different order to him remembering it was interesting. The issues come with her origin and how that ties with the romantic relationship between her and the Doctor

You see (and yes, we’re going into spoilers here) River Song is the daughter of Amy and Rory Williams (and yes they’re married so they’re called Williams, doesn’t matter what the Doctor says) who was conceived in a TARDIS in flight. Lots of bullsh*t happens (see my review of the Wedding of River Song for the worst of it) and they end up being married in an aborted timeline which somehow makes them married in this timeline too. It’s kinda creepy when you think about it.

It’s January, so it’s time to look at 2 Doctor Who episodes. The first might be familiar to long term fans of this blog because I reviewed it a year ago. The review consisted of me mostly laughing at a particular plot point which we’ll get to

So why this episode? Well, I’ve given the episode time to stir in my mind a bit, I’ve read and seen other reviews of the episode and there’s a hell of a lot more wrong with it than just the bullsh*t I was laughing at in my original review.

So, how much worse is it than I remember? It’s bad, really, really bad. Let’s take a look

4 Issue Test #16 - Deadpool

Marvel’s universe has changed, its entire line is being slowly relaunched (I know, this is about the 10^th time now) and I figured it’s time for me to properly embrace the Marvel line and take a look at a few of their new series. And by a few we’ll be looking at titles for 4 of the next 5 months.

We start with the Merc with the mouth himself, Deadpool. Created as in intentional ripoff of Teen Titan’s Deathstroke. Wade Wilson was eventually differentiated from Slade with a few elements of character and back story. He was a part of the Weapon X programme, the same scheme that gave Wolverine his powers and was given regenerative powers from it. The problem is he had cancer and the treatment regenerates his cancer as well as his normal cells.
