#44 - Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again

Well, if you’d seen my Facebook page, you knew this was coming. I’ve made no secret that I really enjoyed Mark Waid’s Archie reboot. A modernisation of the classic characters, which maintains the humour from the regular books and combines it with a certain amount of drama. Riverdale, I show I’m getting more into ups the drama and downs the comedy, honestly to its detriment.

Speaking of detrimental, this sh*t, Archie: To Riverdale and Back again was released in 1990 as potential TV pilot. It flopped in the ratings despite some praised performances and ultimately people lost any ability to care about it, I totally understand this. As I shall now demonstrate.

Editorial - Catching up with Riverdale

It's been a while since I've talked about this series, because I simply haven't had the time to give it full reviews. But I have been keeping an eye and have skimmed all of the episodes that have aired to date, the rest I've found kind of uncomfortable to watch but I'll get to that.

Riverdale Chapter 1 - The River's Edge review

So, the Archie universe is coming to TV in live action for the first time in over a decade. Being a massive fan of Mark Waid’s Archie reboot, I was interested to take a look, until details started coming out about the series and certain elements that I’ll address as this review goes on. Still pondering doing more with this series but for now, here’s my take on Chapter One: The River’s Edge

4 issue Test #22 - Jughead

In the latest title to enter the Archie reboot, Archie’s pal, Jughead Jones takes a title role. Given how enjoyable I’ve found Archie, I decided to take a look at this one. Much like last time, I’m not going to review covers because there are tonnes of them and I will riff on the side-stories at the end after the scores. I won’t be scoring them because they’re not original content and they’ve aged a bit since their original releases. With that said, let’s dig into to our favourite hamburger enthusiast in Jughead #1-4

4 issue test #15 - Archie

Following me falling in love with Gotham Academy (which I still love btw, despite some schedule problems in recent weeks) I suppose it’s time to look at another non-superhero title. This time we look at Archie comics and their reboot stories. Archie is an interesting little guy, from stories of his day to life he’s crossed over with some really big names. He’s met the Ninja Turtles, the cast of Glee, and even the Punisher. But all of that’s been cast aside for the reboot, so we’re going to take a look.

2 things to get out of the way first. 1: I’m not doing reviews of the covers, there are 50 million different variants for each issue and I can’t be bothered with it. Second, for the main review, I’m going over the original content. At the end I’ll do a bit of riffing on the old Archie stories but content-wise they won’t factor into my overall results. So with that out of the way, lets take a look
