#56 Marvel's Spider-man season 1

This might be a review that takes a while it because of scheduling, but this made me stop in my tracks! I’ve put a review on an early list before, but never have I started writing it before its time was coming, that stopped with this. Yup, we’re talking about Spider-man again.

Ultimate Spider-man was not a series I enjoyed, it had a number of issues, particularly regarding their over-use of 4th wall and anime-style jokes, some of the sitcom plots and the fact that Peter Parker as an entity is ignored for large chunks of the series, also the series tried to expand its universe at the expense of having its own identity. But the series did have some decent animation, occasionally a joke would land and there’s no doubt a guest appearance would bring a smile to kids’ faces.

So… WHAT THE F*CK IS THIS SH*T?

I’ll admit, when I heard about the reboot, I was excited. Hearing it would go back to Peter Parker’s roots, and the design aesthetic kinda reminding me of Spectacular Spider-man, which is a favourite series of mine, all good signs. But… from seeing the first few episodes my first thoughts were… my god is it awful. I mean it, this is the worst Spider-man cartoon I’ve seen, and it’s by a considerable margin. But I’ll stop beating about the bush and try and explain why.

Editorial: My thoughts on Civil War II

You've heard me talk about this one in a few reviews but given that my Next review, Jessica Jones, has significant links to this event, or at least a particular aspect of it, it's time to give my thoughts in full.

4 issue test #36 - Champions

OK Marvel, we need to talk. In 2015 you did Secret Wars III, in 2016 you did Civil War II because the movie was coming out and in the wake of that, you’ve done a relaunch, only a year after the last one! Marvel Now (yet another recycled title) launched a few new titles with new creative teams. Unlike with DC Rebirth and the last Marvel relaunch, I’ve been more cautious picking new titles. There are only 2 I plan to cover. One is Jessica Jones (next week my friends) we also have Champions

And yes, it’s another title with the younger Avengers written by Mark Waid, who was less than impressive with his All New All Different Avengers title. But Waid still has some residual goodwill from Archie to allow me to give this a fair shot. Is it worth the read? Let’s take a look

4 issue test #28 - Spider-man

This is probably the best of these variant covers, although who thought putting the word Miles over the image made it look any better?
Miles Morales is in the main Marvel Universe! They collected a lot of his stuff in trades recently and I’ve found them highly enjoyable. Will the latest in the line of Brian Michael Bendis’ books impress or should he have stayed in the now defunct Ultimate Universe? Let’s take a look.
