Star Wars rebels has now begun getting through it's episodes, so let's take a look at the first standalone episode Droids in distress
Episode 3 (counting Spark of Rebellion as a 2-parter) – Droids in Distress
We're
introduced to a couple of old friends, and given the title you'd never guess
which ones
Yup, R2-D2
and C3PO are in this episode, their purpose is to… something or another.
OK, so
synopsis. The Rebels are assigned to deliver a cargo of weapons; they need the
money to fight the good fight, but the weapons so happen to be the type that
destroyed Zeb's planet, so he's reluctant to deliver them, but would definitely
not want them in the hands of the empire.
Yeah, this
is primarily Zeb's episode, there are some character moments with Ezra wanting
to start his jedi training and a bit more banter between Ezra/Kanan and Hera
(as well as some amusing R2-D2 vs Chopper moments)
We know that
R2-D2 and C3PO are on a mission for Senator Organa (which makes C3POs calling
the stormtroopers a tad confusing)
This was a
good start in giving characters background and personality, but it still has a
fair amount of work to do on that. Our two female characters, Hera and Sabine
particularly need to have some development amounted to them.
The one
weakness this show seems to be having against the Clone Wars is scale and
scope. Because they can't fight the big battles with so few numbers, they end
up with smaller duels with much less at stake. Even finding out the field
commander gave the order for the destruction of Zeb's home-world wasn't enough.
The inquisitor will be the key to this, having him on screen hopefully will add
the sense of danger that just isn't there at the moment.
