Editorial - What I want to see in Star Wars Rebels season 4

2 years ago, I did an editorial on what I wanted to see in Star Wars Rebels season 2

I didn't do one for s3 owing to lack of time, but I am going to do one now

1. More calculation from Thrawn

Grand Admiral Thrawn was an interesting introduction to s3. He was definitely a cut above your average imperial leader. However, whilst you see glimmers of his calculating potential during the series, particularly with the Agent Kallus subplot, you didn't really see his full calculating strategy until the finale. This cannot happen again, I hope Thrawn makes some bigger moves early on this time.

2. Alexandr Kallus: A character arc

Agent Kallus evolved from a relatively bland imperial officer in s1 to an well fleshed interesting character in the end of s2 to a full rebel by the end of s3. But it's not to be forgotten that he did have genuine reasons to not like the rebellion in the first place, his heal turn has to have obstacles now more than ever.

3. Something about the relationship between Kanan and Hera

Kanan and Hera have been lovers since the beginning of the series, this is angle has been largely left by the wayside and it really shouldn't be, there are plenty of possibilities for them to explore this beyond the surface level. I was hoping the Kanan comics would expand upon things, unfortunately it was cancelled before anything could come of that. Or maybe it was always designed as a 12-issue miniseries, I'm not sure. Either way, I want to know more about the pair of them.

4. The Fate of Ahsoka

The photo above was during a con when the first season trailer premiered, the left photo was from before, the right after. Ahsoka's fate was left out of the third season and we know she's not coming back to the rebellion. But it was teased that she survived the battle on Malachor and maybe there's a spiritual journey she can take there. They've deliberately kept this information behind closed doors so I'm excited to see what they do with it.

5. Full Circle

With the knowledge that this will be the last season of Rebels, it's important to realise, the ending can't entirely be a happy one. Whilst Hera and Chopper were both referenced in Rogue One, the fates of the others remain unknown. Whilst it's possible Sabine remains on Mandalore, and Zeb returns to his new home, Ezra and Kanan's fates are largely set in stone, and there's a good chance at least Kallus and Rex will also not survive. Although I'll admit, I'm speculating here. There are also smaller details like the Rebellion setting up on Yavin IV. As for the show itself, Lothal is still under imperial occupation, the show has always done an episode or two there anyway, but it's important that the fate of Lothal is sealed, for better or for worse.
