Before I
start the next review, I’d like to say SCREW YOU NICKELODEON. Advertising for
Korra started a mere 2 weeks before its air-date, and the air-date itself
wasn’t revealed until a week later, not surprisingly ratings haven’t been very
good (if I had a penny for every book 3 post I’ve seen through various blogs
saying ‘Korra book 3 is on? I didn’t know’ I’d be quite rich)
On top of
that, Nickelodeon went to advertise that their episodes would not be available
online (at least for a few days) except now, they’re only going to be available
online. I understand that ratings online are very good for Korra, and Korra
isn’t your usual type of show (because it’s good) but seriously, you pull it
mid-book! THAT’S DUMB
OK, let’s
get started with the last episode to air offline
Chapter 8 – The Terror Within
The moment
has finally arrived, but before we get to that we get some scenes where Korra
masters metalbending, and Bolin…. Doesn’t. We also get a brief goodbye to Opel
as she departs for the northern air temple with a truly sweet scene between her
and Bolin
But the meat
of this episode, Zaheer and his group make their move. It’s amazing, they work
as a team very well, Ming Hua and Ghazan defended P’Li when they saw that Bolin
was attempting to exploit her weakness, and they did it with no speech
whatsoever. And there were no arguments when Zaheer ordered their retreat, this
kind of thing shows them to be a formidable group
It is a
shame then that Korra herself spends the entire fight drugged up and unconscious,
although it does give us an opportunity to see Metalbending used brilliantly,
although I personally would’ve liked to have seen more wire-fu fights (like those
in book 1)
Also nice
reference to TLA using Shirshu toxin to knock Korra out. Anyway, with the fight
won, and only half the episode done, we look into the details of how the attack
happened. Aiwei, being a truth seer, is the one doing the questioning
Which does
pose the question, how come neither of Toph’s daughters learned this skill? And
why don’t they teach it at police academy, it surely would be helpful for
Earthbending police (which are most of them) to be able to tell that
It’s nice to
see Mako’s detective skills are used here, and without everyone else acting
like an idiot (I’ll get to this when I get into my review of book 2 starting
later this week) with him asking the questions that eventually allowed them to
deduce that Aiwei himself was the traitor
Varrick is
on top form this episode, providing good humour throughout the episode, and
also proving useful in reminding them how it’d be really easy to plant evidence
if you already suspect someone’s guilty (much like he did to Mako in ‘everybody’s
an idiot except Mako’ – I’ll explain this in my review)
We end the
episode with Korra setting out to find Aiwei and stop Zaheer and his gang. This
leaves us with a few unanswered interesting questions. Did Aiwei do something
to Lin to make her receive acupuncture? How big is this conspiracy? Who is
ultimately the head of it? How many other agents are there? Questions to be
answered in the coming weeks.
Rating 8.5/10
