Star Wars Rebels Season 2 Episode 9 review - Legacy

Well, after that action masterpiece from the last episode we move to the mid-season finale of Star Wars Rebels, what will this episode deliver?

Legacy

A mid-season finale for Star Wars Rebels has a big action scene and an supposed answer to one of the longstanding questions of the series. Providing a fitting yet surprisingly dulled finale to the series so far.

So, with the Empire launching a major strike on Garell to wipe out the rebels thanks to the inquisitors’ tip (Plus Kallus somehow confirming it) Pheonix Squadron, the Ghost and the command ship need to find a way to escape the blockade that they’ve set up. Plus, Ezra has a vision in the force that tells him to go back to Lothal to find information about his parents.

So the episode is more or less divided between these plots with the first half being on the assault and the second half on Lothal. There’s very little ground combat in this episode, just enough to show that Ezra still has strength with the force, it’s not something you see very often. The Inquisitors are wasted in this episode but we had a big battle with them last week and this episode needs to see the Rebels actually win so I can’t complain too much

With the battle in the skies it’s nice that everyone got a shout out, looks like Rex has joined Commander Sato in the command ship for this episode. He doesn’t get much to do, but at least he’s acknowledged, there was no sign of him last week at all.

Hera’s determination and piloting skills shine through once again as she helps rescue the command ship from an imperial tractor beam by ramming straight through it, I might add. A brave soldier indeed.

So, Ezra’s parents. I haven’t said much about them before, there’s actually very little to say. They were arrested for broadcasting messages against the Empire and Ezra had no idea where they were, or even if they were still alive

This episode tells us (and I’m not calling a final answer yet) that they died after instigating a prison break, inspired by Ezra’s message last season. I don’t know how this will effect Ezra, but I’m hoping it won’t dampen his spirits too much

This is a strong episode, but lacks anything awesome like that Ahsoka battle. It’s a suitable mid-season finale and it works for what it is, providing some development for Ezra and rounding off some long standing plot threads.

Rating 7.5/10
