Editorial - What I want to see in Young Justice Season 3

Young justice season 3 has been announced!

Young Justice had 2 great seasons which I did retrospectives on earlier this year and yes, I will be reviewing the next season when it comes out, however it comes out.

But before that comes, here's a top 5 list of things I want to see in Season 3

5. More widespread character development

Season 2 had a lot of characters and it's understandable that the focus remained on a select few. Some characters had mini-arcs like Karen and Mal's relationship and the breakup love triangle thing between Superboy, Miss Martian and Lagoon Boy but they ultimately didn't have much effect on the plot. Others had inklings of development like Tim and Cassie overcoming confidence issues, Beast Boy lamenting the loss of his mother and Static joining the team but these are relegated to small scenes and have little impact on the larger narrative, where the original members of the team (minus Wally), plus a lot of Blue Beetle and a bit of Impulse got the lion's share of development, except Roy who basically disappeared after the first half of the season. This was fine with me but they have a lot of characters in need of depth. Tim and Cassie being a couple at the end was straight out of left field for me because they'd barely had any screen-time together, I hope season 3, whilst I'm sure it will also introduce new characters will spend time giving development to the characters they have,

4. More intergalactic travel

The premise for season 2 is that Earth is in the Galactic spotlight and more alien threats are coming to Earth, but they only spent one episode fully on an alien planet and I'm not counting the brief scenes on Rimbor. There is a lot of possibility for the Light to command its presence on a number of planets now they have the War World in their possession, so it would make sense to allow some more exploration of other planets.

3. Nightwing vs Deathstroke

On a more local level, season 2 introduced Deathstroke with his silly pony tail, however he was taken down off-screen by Aqualad and Nightwing, arguably one of Deathstroke's arch-rivals never fought him in person. This was a tragic missed opportunity brought about by him being off-screen whilst Miss Martian's arc concluded. But time moves on and Deathstroke will most likely break out again, he wants a seat at the Light's table and that opportunity must not be missed again. It's also a chance for a real fisticuffs action scene. Sportsmaster relies more on weapons and whilst Deathstroke could match him, I'd like to see him take someone on hand-to-hand.

2. More League/Team Team-ups

The Team are known by the public now, operating in the shadows is no longer an option and given the ending of season 2 they are being treated by the League as equals. So there will be multiple opportunities for the League and the Team to join forces on special missions. I say they take full advantage of that. Of course it can't just be the league taking charge any more though.

1. The Light's plan

We know what the Light want, to thrust Earth into the centre of the cosmos through survival of the fittest. We've seen glimpses of how they plan to achieve it including an alliance with Darkseid, which is bound to end well... but we don't know the full extent of their plan. We don't yet know how the season is going to air and how the show is to be funded. There's no guarantee of a 4th season so it's important that we see where things are going this and not left on tenterhooks like before. The Light may have lost 2 members (I'm not counting Ra's since the Lazarus pit exists) but they're in a strong position, especially with Luthor's public image being better than ever and the possession of the War World. It's time to see how they use it.
