Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Ghost Rider episode 8 review - The Laws of Inferno Dynamics

The Laws of Inferno Dynamics

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. thus far has had a strong season, apparently instead of the usual 2 connected stories, for this season we’ve got 3, and Ghost Rider concludes as it had started, with a strong episode.

Are all the loose ends tied up neatly, no, the watchdogs are still out there and there’s still the bad blood with the Senator but I feel the conclusion is satisfying, but the problem is they’ve called the season Ghost Rider but they don’t really have the budget for him, as such he doesn’t get a lot to do in this episode.

Don’t get me wrong, Ghost Rider will be back, that much is inevitable, and unlike some people I’ve heard about, I totally get the need to bench him for a while. Not just because his CGI is expensive on a TV budget but the other problem in enemies that are tough for him are pretty near impossible for everyone else, and anything that’s tough for them is easy pickings for Ghost Rider. Ghost Rider is an easy match for Ada, for example, but we’ll get to her later.

So in terms of developments, Mace decides to come clean about why he had to work with an inhuman hating senator to try and break barriers of trust, although he also carries resentment regarding some of Coulson’s choices through the season and somewhat understandably all things considered.

Daisy gets a bit of convenient resolution regarding her outlaw status when she conveniently needs air and jumps right into a press-gang with the only solution being Mace to declare her a full functioning S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. It’s nice to see Mace’s kind heart shine through after many episodes of not knowing whether or not to trust him.

So, Eli’s threat comes to a head and Coulson sends in the big guns, with Yo-Yo having her heroic moments and finally her and Mack get to embrace their romance. However, the ultimate defeat of Eli comes from Fitz’s discovery of how his powers work, by taking energy from another universe.

Ada also has a substantial role in proceedings and also takes a few bullets for the team, it’s interesting that her design allows her to feel pain and it does make you feel sorry for her, which makes the twist ending all the more impactful.

Of course, we all knew that S.H.I.E.L.D. agent whose name you can’t remember is going to die but the unexpected twist of May being replaced by an LMD teases some exciting things to come after the Christmas break. I’ll be returning to the series then

Rating 8.5/10
