Oh boy this
is probably my least favourite 2 episodes of the show, so let’s get on with it,
and get it over with.
Chapter 5 – Peacekeepers
Gosh darn it,
would you believe a City doesn't want to send their troops into war? Gosh darn
it Korra, it’s almost as if you’re asking them to die.
Right, let’s
get to the meat of the episode. Varrick is hilarious in this, and that’s about
the only positive I can give this episode.
Korra is an
idiot – she automatically assigns blame for the bombing of the southern
cultural centre, despite the fact the Northern Tribe would gain NOTHING from
it. If anything, if they were responsible, they’d send troops on the side of
the South, and no Northerner wants that. Then comes her constant inability to
accept anyone’s side of things other than her own, indicated by her arguments
and eventual breakups with Mako.
Bolin is,
actually he’s not an idiot in this one, he tells Mako how Korra’s planning to
go behind the President’s back… But that’s not idiotic, it’s more casual
conversation
Asami gets
little to no screen time, so not much to say there
Lin Beifong
is an idiot. She is rude to Korra on her arrival without knowing the full story
behind the Civil War, and the Avatar’s involvement in starting it. She shouts
at Mako for entering her office and while I’m fine with that, she calls him ‘some
rookie beat cop’ – SHE KNOWS HIM for Christ's sake. Which is weirdly enforced by
her comment after the breakup.
General
Iroh, in his brief appearance, is also an idiot. He should not under any
circumstances send his troops near an area of civil war without the President’s
approval. I'd have thought that had been obvious
Unalaq is an
idiot. He told Korra last time that he didn't need her, but he does now apparently.
And instead of bringing her father back, he let Korra bust him out run off.
Those two
detectives are idiots, but I think that was intentional, so…
Reiko isn't
an idiot, aside from the fact that he also believes that the Northern Water Tribe are responsible for the bombing
Republic
city does not look as colourful and vibrant as it once did, and what the hell
happened to Lin Beifong. Animation is rough here.
But on the
side-plot. Tenzin teaching Meelo to be a master trainer was actually a sweet
story, and enjoyable – pity it was only the side plot.
The ending
was interesting, we’ll see how that pans out soon.
Rating 4/10
Chapter 6 – The Sting
Who’d have thought
hiring criminals would result in being double-crossed? Not Mako apparently
Part 2 of
everyone’s an idiot except Mako, features Mako partially being an idiot as
well, but he does do some decent detective work.
So let’s go
over why everyone’s an idiot this time.
Unalaq is an
idiot – what could his daughters do against a dark spirit exactly? It’s not
their fault Korra was “killed”
Bolin is an
idiot – believing his love on the show reflects his love in real life, yeesh.
Also he wouldn't help Mako because… Why again?
Those movers
are irritatingly cheesy but I think that was intentional, so I won’t discredit
them there
The police
are idiots, not one of them might think that if the Northern Water Tribe wanted
to sink a ship, they’d do it in either international or even Southern Water Tribe waters – you know places where it wouldn't spark outside investigation
(or at least not without delays of bureaucracy) How did Lin become Chief of Police again?
Asami is an
idiot, you cannot seriously tell me she left her warehouse full of all of her
Future Industries tech unguarded when her shipments have been stolen! (And don’t
tell me she did have guards, there are no unconscious bodies in there at all)
Varrick is
an idiot, you’d think he’d be better at covering his tracks, rather than giving
his men detonators only he has possession of!
Animation –
Mako's face is unbelievably static for a few seconds in that scene in the
warehouse, it’s just the minor details Studio Pierot always misses.
This is my
least favourite episode of the entirety of Korra
